Land Rover’s joint logistics operation with NYK Logistics has scooped one of the UK’s most coveted manufacturing awards.

 

Solihull-based Land Rover and NYK Logistics (UK) have received a top accolade in The Manufacturer Awards 2005 - a prestigious series of awards that celebrate world class achievement in UK manufacturing.

 

The two companies have won the Automotive Industry Supply Chain Award, sponsored by Hewlett Packard and SAP.

 

The awards, sponsored by a range of blue chip companies and supported by the DTI, were presented at a 700 seat gala black tie dinner at The Manufacturer Live event at Telford’s International Centre. The dinner was attended by representatives of the UK’s major manufacturing companies and hosted by Tomorrow’s World and Robot Wars presenter Philippa Forrester.

 

The Automotive Supply Chain Award goes to a company able to demonstrate tangible benefits from having established a formal, forward looking supply chain strategy which meets customer demands.

 

The 12-strong panel of judges made up of industrialists, academics and business journalists, said, “A clear winner, providing significant evidence of achievement. A really impressive logistics set up.”

 

Bedfordshire based NYK Logistics (UK) supports customers with “mission critical” logistics requirements. Working together NYK and Land Rover have achieved a step change in the inbound logistics needed to launch Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3 into worldwide markets.

 

 

The awards were part of the two day Manufacturer Live 2005 summit which was attended by more than 2000 manufacturing decision makers. Delegates heard from more than 50 speakers from leading manufacturers who hosted best-practice workshops, seminars and debates on the sector’s big issues.

 

The event, which was presented in association with Barclays and supported by the DTI, offered manufacturers the chance to learn from their peers and share their own best practice.
